Bangabandhu envisioned economic success story of Bangladesh: Tofail at FBCCI event

The current economic success story of Bangladesh was mainly founded by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, as the father of the nation took some visionary steps after the independence of the country in 1971, speakers said today.

The philosophy of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was to improve the lots of ordinary people and to ensure their freedom, said Tofail Ahmed, former commerce minister.

This philosophy of Bangabandhu is reflected in his historic speech on 7th March in 1971, he said while addressing a seminar on "Bangabandhu's Economic Philosophy: Bangladesh in Development of Commerce and Industries."

Ahmed, who was also the political secretary to the father of the nation after the independence of the country, said Bangabandhu framed the Industrial Enterprise Act and nationalised the Pakistan owners' left out industries to rebuild the ware ravaged country in independent Bangladesh.

After the independence of the country, Bangabandhu tried to rebuild the nation with his economic vision, he also said.

The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) organised the seminar to commemorate the contribution of the Father of the Nation.

Mohammed Farashuddin, former governor of Bangladesh Bank and Personal Secretary to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib; Nihad Kabir, president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, former FBCCI president; AK Azad, another former FBCCI president; Salman F Rahman, adviser to the prime minister on private industries and investment, Planning Minister M A Mannan, Kazi Akramuddin Ahmed, former FBCCI president; and Md Jashim Uddin, the current FBCCI president also spoke at the programme.
