Govt may appoint ex-NBR chief to World Bank post
The government is likely to appoint Abdur Rahman Khan, the immediate past chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), as Bangladesh’s next executive director at the World Bank.
A Ministry of Finance official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Daily Star that the proposal for his appointment has already been approved by the Prime Minister’s Office.
Sharifa Khan, former senior secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), currently holds the position.
The interim government led by Dr Muhammad Yunus appointed Abdur Rahman Khan as NBR chairman in August 2024 after cancelling the contractual appointment of his predecessor, Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem.
