New industrial policy should create a vibrant private sector: experts at DCCI webinar
Steps should be taken to create a vibrant private sector while formulating the new national industrial policy for 2021, analysts said at a webinar organised by the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) today.
The policy should focus on product diversification, skills development, policy reforms, private sector-led economic transformation, technology adaptation, adequate training, they said.
Development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), protection of domestic market, facilitation of import subsidy industry, redefine SME, cluster development and participation of women entrepreneurs should also be ensured, the experts said.
The private sector should be made ready so that it can compete in the international market even after the country's graduation from the least-developed country category, they said.
They spoke at a webinar titled 'Private sector expectation in the proposed national industrial policy-2021'.
Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, the chief guest, stressed the need for coordinated efforts of public-private sector to create employment opportunities, establish skilled backward and forward linkage industry and expand domestic industry.
State Minister for Industries Kamal Ahmed Mozumder also spoke where Md Salim Ullah, senior assistant secretary of the industries ministry, presented a keynote paper.
DCCI President Rizwan Rahman recommended developing the e-commerce sector.
