Agrani Bank posts 54.5% growth in operating profit
Agrani Bank’s operating profit jumped 54.5 percent year-on-year to Tk 2,334 crore in 2025, driven by lower operating costs and growth in deposits and remittance business.
The bank’s operating profit was Tk 1,511 crore in 2024, an increase of Tk 823 crore in a year, according to a press release.
Operating costs declined 7.08 percent from the previous year, while provisioning requirements rose 16.22 percent to Tk 10,557 crore in 2025. The bank said its operating costs remained within the limits agreed upon with Bangladesh Bank under a memorandum of understanding.
Agrani Bank’s total assets grew 11.36 percent to Tk 142,661 crore in 2025 from Tk 128,106 crore a year earlier.
Its deposits rose 13.90 percent to Tk 113,029 crore from Tk 99,232 crore in 2024. Of the total deposits, Tk 55,744 crore were low- or no-interest deposits, while the advance-to-deposit ratio stood at 71.29 percent.
The figures were disclosed at the bank’s 19th annual general meeting (AGM), held at its head office in Dhaka on Sunday.
Nazma Mobarek, secretary of the Financial Institutions Division of the Ministry of Finance, attended the meeting as the chief guest and government representative.
She expressed optimism that the bank would improve its performance across financial indicators and continue to lead among state-owned commercial banks.
Syed Abu Naser Bukhtear Ahmed, chairman of the bank, reviewed the 2025 financials while presiding over the meeting.
The bank’s total investments increased 1.94 percent to Tk 80,573 crore, while interest-earning assets rose 3.43 percent to Tk 85,921 crore.
Meanwhile, remittance collection surged 61.46 percent to Tk 33,961 crore from Tk 21,033 crore. Import transactions also increased 7.47 percent to Tk 54,367 crore.
Md Anwarul Islam, managing director, presented an overview of the bank’s performance in loan recovery, deposits, lending, trade, remittance and service expansion.
