AIUB confers degrees to 1,766 students at 23rd convocation
The 23rd convocation of American International University–Bangladesh took place on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the university's permanent campus.
With the consent of the President of Bangladesh and Chancellor of AIUB, Mohammed Shahabuddin, scientist Abed Chaudhury presided over the ceremony and conferred degrees. Mohammad Anwar Hossen, Member of the University Grants Commission, attended as special guest. Speeches were delivered by Nadia Anwar, Chairman and Founder Member of the AIUB Board of Trustees, Vice-Chancellor Saiful Islam, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Md Abdur Rahman.
A total of 1,766 students from different faculties received undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Medals and honours were awarded in several categories, including Chancellor's Gold Medal, Vice-Chancellor's Award, Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, Summa Cum Laude, and the Dr Anwarul Abedin Leadership Award.
Addressing the graduates, Abed Chaudhury said, "Bangladesh and, indeed, the whole world is undergoing a major crisis. A crisis is a combination of risk and possibility. Therefore, as we measure our risk and count our options locally and globally, we find our education and experience on our side. You represent that education; that ability to detect and overcome the crisis; and that ability to move beyond the crisis is our future; you are the future."
Mohammad Anwar Hossen said, "This moment is not merely a convocation; it is a recognition of your years of hard work- your examinations and assignments, sleepless nights, resilience through challenges, your parents' hard-earned tuition, and your own dedication and sacrifice."
In her welcome speech, Nadia Anwar said, "When I look at you - our graduates - I see hundreds of stories. Stories of battles fought quietly. Stories of dreams held close to the heart. Stories of nights filled with doubt, and mornings filled with renewed determination. You did not reach this moment by chance. You reached it through strength, through hope, and through an unshakeable commitment to your future." Addressing parents, she added: "Our love, respect, and gratitude toward you are not merely words; they are expressions of our deepest feelings. The sacrifices you made in silence - perhaps setting aside your own dreams or restraining your personal desires—are the true foundation of today's success."
Delivering the convocation speech, Habib Fardoun said, "AIUB's motto, 'Where leaders are created,' is not just a beautiful sentence; it is a promise this institution makes to its students and to society. But more important than any rating or ranking is this: AIUB believed in your potential before the world knew your name. The future will belong to those who remain curious—those who keep learning, unlearning, and relearning, and who build bridges where others see walls".
Saiful Islam said, "You have travelled a long way to come to this point. You must go further and travel a long way and cross several more barriers to be a successful person in your life. Remember that this is not an endpoint, but a powerful launch pad to a future brimming with possibilities."
Md Abdur Rahman said, "On behalf of AIUB, we extend our sincere appreciation to all graduates, parents, and guests whose presence has truly honored today's ceremony."
The event was attended by AIUB Founder Member Hasanul A Hasan, Founder Member Ishtiaque Abedin, members of the Board of Trustees, Syndicate and Academic Council, UGC officials, vice-chancellors and pro-vice-chancellors of different universities, faculty members, students, families and members of the media.
