Banglalink partners with Starlink Mobile for satellite connectivity
Banglalink has announced a partnership with Starlink Mobile to introduce satellite-to-mobile connectivity in Bangladesh.
The service is expected to enable users to access communication services in areas with limited or no network coverage, says a press release.
Banglalink said the initiative will initially support SMS and over-the-top (OTT) messaging, with voice and data services to be introduced later.
The company said the service will help address connectivity challenges in remote regions including hill tracts, coastal areas and riverine locations.
It said the technology will also support communication during emergencies and natural disasters.
Johan Buse, chief executive officer of Banglalink, said the initiative aims to expand access to communication services.
“By providing satellite-enabled coverage with Starlink, we aim to bridge those gaps and ensure people can stay connected, even in the most remote parts of the country,” he said.
Stephanie Bednarek, vice president of Starlink Mobile Sales, said the collaboration will help extend connectivity to underserved communities.
The launch is subject to regulatory approval.
Banglalink said the initiative is part of a broader collaboration between VEON and Starlink to expand satellite-based mobile connectivity across multiple markets.
