Dhaka University hosts its first-ever TEDx event
The University of Dhaka hosted TEDxUniversityofDhaka, the first-ever TEDx event in its 104-year history, at the TSC Auditorium on Saturday.
The event, themed "Bangladesh Reborn: Progress Through Perspectives," drew inspiration from the spirit of the July Revolution and its vision of a renewed Bangladesh.
The event was attended by over 400 spectators, including students, faculty members, and distinguished guests. It marked a major milestone in fostering a culture of curiosity, creativity, and intellectual exchange at Bangladesh's oldest and most prestigious university.
TEDx events are independently organised global gatherings held under a license from TED, embodying the mission of sharing "ideas worth spreading." These events aim to inspire communities by featuring thought leaders and innovators who bring new perspectives to the local and global stage.
The TEDxUniversityofDhaka stage featured 12 speakers, including Shehreen Amin Bhuiyan, Huma Khan, Nayeem Ashraf, Ashfaque Nipun, Monoshita Ayruani, Ziaur Rahman, Azmeri Haque Badhon, Kebria Sarker, Jobayer Hossain Shuvo, Rony Sharafat, Ar. Nazli Hossain, and Habiba Akter Shurovy.
Several guest speakers also shared their insights, including Wasik Sajid Khan, Lecturer of Japanese Studies; Dr. Firdous Zareen; and popular content creator Mashfiq Enam Turjo (The Humor Tablet). Members of the advisory panel — Sayeda Lasna Kabir, Chairman of the Department of Public Administration, and Md. Robiul Islam, Lecturer of Public Administration — also delivered remarks.
Sadik Kayem, the recently elected VP of DUCSU, addressed the audience, expressing his commitment to supporting more such initiatives in the future.
Adding to the event's vibrancy were cultural performances, including a violin recital, a dance performance, and a live concert by the band DUBS, showcasing the university's rich cultural spirit.
The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors: Shahjalal Islami Bank as the Platinum Sponsor, Fresh Anonna Sanitary Napkin as the Gold Sponsor, and UPL as the Bronze Sponsor.
The enthusiasm among students and faculty reflected the excitement surrounding this groundbreaking event. Organizers noted that TEDxUniversityofDhaka symbolizes the beginning of a new tradition — one that encourages the exchange of transformative ideas, interdisciplinary collaboration, and student-led innovation at the heart of Bangladesh's academic community.
The event received widespread positive feedback both online and offline, setting a strong precedent for future TEDx events at Dhaka University.
With "Ideas Worth Spreading," Dhaka University has opened a new chapter in its century-long legacy of thought leadership and intellectual empowerment.
