Dr Sharif N AS-Saber appointed as VC of Stamford University

Dr Sharif N AS-Saber has joined Stamford University Bangladesh as its new Vice-Chancellor (VC).

The appointment was made by the President of Bangladesh, who serves as Chancellor of the university, under Section 31(1) of the Private University Act 2010. He has been appointed for a four-year term from the date of joining.

The information was confirmed in a press release issued by Prodeepto Mobarook, Head of the Public Relations Division of Stamford University Bangladesh.

According to the university, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Professor Dr Farahnaaz Firoz, proposed a panel of candidates. The President approved the appointment of Dr Sharif N AS-Saber for the next four years.

Dr Sharif N AS-Saber previously served as a faculty member in the Department of Management under the College of Economics and Political Science at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman.

Between 2023 and 2025, he was Vice-Chair of the Middle East Chapter of the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education.

At RMIT University in Australia, he held several senior leadership roles, including Associate Professor, Deputy Head, Associate Dean (Research and Innovation), Acting Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor and Acting Head. During his tenure, he established a sustainability-focused Master of International Business programme and led a cluster of the Jean Monnet Sustainable Development Goals Network.

At Monash University, he was the Founding Director of the MPhil (Industry) programme and Director of the International Business programme. He also served as an elected member of the Academic Board. He has also held academic leadership roles at the University of Tasmania and Massey University.

He earned his PhD from the University of Tasmania, an MBA from Monash University, and degrees in Law and International Relations from the University of Dhaka. His research interests include governance, public policy, artificial intelligence, climate change, ethics and international business strategy. He has secured research grants from the Australian Research Council and other international bodies and has supervised doctoral researchers.

Outside academia, he served in the Bangladesh Civil Service, including as a local government administrator.

On February 16, 2026, Dr Sharif N AS-Saber formally assumed office in the presence of the Chairman and members of the Board of Trustees, along with deans, department heads and faculty members of the university.
