Grand Finale of 8th Daffodil Captain Cup Golf Tournament 2025 held at Kurmitola Golf Club
The closing and award-giving ceremony of the 8th Daffodil Captain Cup Golf Tournament 2025 was held on Friday (October 24), at the Kurmitola Golf Club, marking the end of a three-day celebration of sportsmanship, technology, and national pride.
The event, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Army and Daffodil Group, was participated by golfers from home and abroad in a vibrant atmosphere of friendship, discipline, and excellence. The grand ceremony was attended by General Waker-Uz-Zaman, SBP, OSP, SGP, PSC, Chief of Army Staff and President of Kurmitola Golf Club, who attended as the chief guest.
Also present were Lieutenant General Mohammad Shaheenul Haque, Commandant of the National Defence College and Vice President of Kurmitola Golf Club, and Dr. Md. Sabur Khan, Chairman of Daffodil Group and Daffodil International University, who delivered inspiring speeches on Bangladesh's journey toward technological self-reliance and innovation.
During the ceremony, awards were distributed among the winners of various categories. Colonel Mohammad Nasir Uddin was crowned Champion, Colonel Muhammad Shariful Islam secured the Runner-up position, and Mrs. Jin Sook Yoon was named Ladies Winner. The presence of more than 650 golfers from different golf clubs across Bangladesh added to the grandeur of the tournament.
In his address, Dr. Md. Sabur Khan highlighted how the tournament reflected not just sporting excellence, but also the spirit of local innovation and entrepreneurship. The golf umbrella used in this year's event was produced entirely through a local initiative, marking a significant milestone for the country's sports manufacturing sector.
"Usually, we import this kind of sports equipment from abroad," said Dr. Khan. "But this year, we proved that Bangladeshi entrepreneurs have the courage and capability to create and innovate. This umbrella is not just a product—it's a symbol of our self-reliance and national pride."
Dr. Khan also spoke about Daffodil's three-decade journey in advancing technology and education in Bangladesh. Since its founding in 1990, Daffodil Group has pioneered numerous milestones, including introducing the country's first locally manufactured PC through Daffodil Computers Ltd. and establishing Daffodil International University, which now ranks in the Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings.
"We have always believed in the power of Bangladeshi innovation," he said. "Our journey is proof that a local brand can be global in quality, vision, and impact."
As the ceremony drew to a close, the lush greens of Kurmitola echoed with applause, laughter, and the spirit of camaraderie. For participants and guests alike, the 8th Daffodil Captain Cup Golf Tournament 2025 was more than a sporting event—it was a celebration of resilience, friendship, and the power of homegrown excellence.
Daffodil Group, a long-time advocate of sports and healthy living, reaffirmed its belief that sports are not merely recreational but are essential in fostering leadership, morale, and discipline. With every edition, the Daffodil Captain Cup continues to inspire a new generation to combine athletic passion with the spirit of national innovation.
