IUB CSE students win 3-Minute Thesis Competition Bangladesh

IUB students have won the 3-Minute Thesis Competition Bangladesh 2025.

A team of final-year undergraduate students from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Independent University, Bangladesh secured the top position at the national competition. The event was held on October 12, 2025, through a virtual platform coordinated from Dhaka by Elite Research Lab LLC.

The winning team, Team THREE, consisted of Yousra Tabassum, Nusrat Sultana and Anika Islam. They represented IUB's Center for Computational & Data Sciences. The team progressed through the poster submission, recorded presentation and live virtual presentation stages.

They presented a research titled "Segment Anything Model 2 (SAM 2) for Accurate Flood Detection in Remote Sensing Imagery." The work was published in the 2024 IEEE Computer Society Conference Proceedings through CEII-2024 in Singapore. The research was supervised by Ashraful Islam, Director of the Center for Computational & Data Sciences and Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IUB.

The competition began with 238 teams submitting graphical slides. Fifty-two teams advanced to the video presentation round, and 14 teams reached the final stage, which included live presentations and a question session with the judges.

The result highlights the continued involvement of IUB's Computer Science and Engineering students in national research competitions.
