Seminar highlights need for stronger infection control to tackle AMR
A seminar on combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) was held at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, focusing on the role of infection prevention and control (IPC).
The event, titled “Strategies to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance – Role of IPC”, was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Infection Prevention and Control Forum and the Infection Prevention & Control Committee of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, says a press release.
The session was chaired by Brigadier General Dr Md Asaduzzaman, director of the hospital.
Professor Dr Md Mazharul Shaheen, principal of Dhaka Medical College, attended as chief guest.
Special guests included Professor Dr Musarrat Sultana, vice principal of Dhaka Medical College; Professor Dr Nadim Ahmed, dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Dhaka; Professor Dr Sazzad Bin Shahid, head of the Department of Microbiology at Dhaka Medical College; and Associate Professor Dr Ahmed Sami Al Hasan, dean of Postgraduate Medical Sciences at the University of Dhaka.
Keynote presentations were delivered by Professor Dr Zahidul Islam, president of the Bangladesh Infection Prevention and Control Forum, and Professor Dr Md Akram Hossain, vice president of the forum.
Speakers highlighted the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance and emphasised the importance of strengthening infection prevention systems in hospitals.
They said coordinated strategies and improved practices are essential to address the challenge.
During the seminar, TechVital Systems Limited demonstrated an infection control device currently in use at United Medical College and Hospital.
The session was moderated by Dr Kakoli Halder, assistant professor of microbiology at Dhaka Medical College.
Speakers said effective implementation of IPC measures is necessary to ensure safer healthcare environments and reduce infection risks.
