Women comprise 65% of awardees at IUB Academic Awards Ceremony

Independent University, Bangladesh held its Academic Awards Ceremony 2025 on Thursday (December 4) at the university auditorium.

The event recognised students for academic achievements up to the Autumn 2024 semester.

Students were honoured under five merit categories. The Vice Chancellor's Honour List includes those who earned a CGPA of 3.86 or higher for three consecutive semesters. The Vice Chancellor's List recognises students with a CGPA of at least 3.50 over the same period. The Dean's Honour List includes students with a CGPA of 3.76 or above in two successive semesters, while the Dean's Merit List recognises students with a minimum CGPA of 3.50 over two semesters. Students with a CGPA above 3.50 in a single semester are placed on the Dean's List. A student may qualify for more than one list.

All awardees received certificates. Students on the Vice Chancellor's Honour List and the Dean's Honour List receive cash prizes of BDT 10,000 and BDT 5,000 respectively.

A total of 1,310 students earned places on the merit lists in Autumn 2024, representing 12 percent of the student body. The number continues to rise, following 1,109 awardees in Summer 2024 and 974 in Spring 2024. Women made up 65 percent of this year's award recipients.

Speakers at the ceremony included Didar A Husain, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Trustee Towhid Samad; Vice Chancellor Prof M Tamim; Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Daniel W Lund; and Registrar Asif Parvez. Other attendees included Trustee Ismail Dovbsh, Trustee Dr Husne Ara Ali, Treasurer Khandker Md Iftekhar Haider, deans, department heads and faculty members. Additional Registrar Mona Rahman moderated the event.
