Far Away From Home

In a fresh attempt, 3,450 Rohingyas were scheduled to be repatriated to Myanmar yesterday. None of them, however, agreed to go. The Rohingyas have been living in camps, after 740,000 of them fled military atrocities in Rakhine, which was described as having “genocidal intent” by UN independent investigators. The Rohingyas here have found jobs, education and a simple way of living. Facilities have been given to ensure their stay here is as close to comfortable as possible. Their wounds, while still fresh, are in the process of healing due to having found a generous and welcoming host. But home is what they yearn for, provided that home is not the bloodied one they had left behind.
