With 82 percent of his body burnt, day labourer Ranjit Nath is fighting for his life at the Intensive Care Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital. His wife Chhabi Nath can be seen crying outside the ICU.

"I want to see my husband…. I want to be by his side and hold his hands," wailed Chhabi pressing her face to the glass of the ICU. She could not enter the ICU as doctors restricted visitors considering patients' health.

"Who should I blame for my fate? Who will give me justice?" Chhaba continued crying outside the ICU.

Dr Iftekher Shamim said Ranjit's respiratory tract was inflamed and he could not breathe on his own. Ranjit is on life support at the moment.

Ranjit Nath was returning to his home in Enayetpur of Hathazari upazila in a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Wednesday night. When the vehicle was passing through Chariya area, it was hit by a petrol bomb.

The incident also left Md Saber, 28, the CNG driver, with burn injuries. Saber and Ranjit were rushed to CMCH. Saber has 45 percent burn injuries.

Saber's wife Kamrunnesa just gave birth to a baby girl and the couple also has a four-year-old son.

Abul Fayez, Saber's nephew, said Saber is the breadwinner of the family. Saber married Kamrunnesa about five years ago.

"We don't know where we will get money for uncle's treatment," he said.

"We are common people and we don't understand politics. Why did they attack my uncle?" Fayez asked.

"What will happen to his wife and children now?" he added.

Meanwhile, Hathazari police arrested 16 activists of BNP and Jamaat-Shibir during a raid in the area after the incident.
