1 dies, 5 injured in fire incidents
Six people suffered burn injuries in two separate incidents in Dhaka and Chattogram yesterday, of whom one succumbed to his injuries late last night.
Three people sustained burns after an air-conditioner compressor exploded and caused a fire in Old Dhaka’s Islampur yesterday around 5:30pm.
The victims were repairing the AC on the rooftop of an 11-storey building, said Rasel Sikder, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, adding that locals rushed them to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Ashiq (20), who had sustained 40 percent burns, died around 11:30pm, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost. Al Amin (24) sustained 12 percent while Arif (18) sustained 14 percent burns, he added.
In Chattogram, three people sustained injuries when a gas cylinder exploded in a welding workshop at Agrabad.
The injured are Shahadat Bhuiyan (55), Golam Maola (50), and Md Mizan (38), said police. They were working at RB Engineering Workshop when a cylinder exploded, said Shilbrata Barua of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) Police Camp.
Deputy Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence Chattogram Azizul Islam said on information, fire service officials rushed to the spot and rescued the injured from the area.
Critically injured, all three were rushed to CMCH.
They were admitted to the Burn and Plastic Surgery unit of the hospital.
Later, Golam and Shahadat was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as they needed to be put in Intensive Care Unit, he said.
Dr S Khaled, assistant professor of the burn unit of CMCH, said Golam sustained 65 percent burns, Shahadat 41 percent and Mizan 25 percent.
