20 hurt as BCL factions clash at Chittagong University

At least 20 students were injured in a clash early today between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League at Chittagong University, over establishing supremacy on campus.

During the clash, the BCL men vandalised the university's AF Rahman Hall, reports our Chattogram correspondent, quoting witnesses.

Police detained 52 activists from the spot but released 46 of them later, said Masud Alam, officer-in-charge of Hathazari Police Station.

Campus sources said the shuttle train compartment-based groups "Bijoy" and "Concord" clashed in front of AF Rahman dormitory around 1:30am.

At one stage, the activists of another shuttle train compartment-based BCL faction "Sixty Nine" joined "Concord" and attacked the "Bijoy" group members.

Informed, police rushed to the spot and charged batons to disperse the group members, said the OC.
