5 shops gutted in Ctg fire

Five shops were gutted in a fire at Natun Chaktai in Chattogram city early yesterday.

The fire that originated from a cigarette stub at a shop in the area soon spread to the adjacent shops around 1:25am, said Farid Ahmed Chowdhury, deputy director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Chattogram.

Eight fire fighting vehicles rushed to the spot and managed to douse the blaze around 3:10am.

The fire gutted valuables worth Tk 1.5 lakh, the official said.
