55 SAU teachers quit admin posts over recruitment
Fifty-five teachers and 12 officials of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) resigned from their administrative duties on Wednesday evening over an altercation between the teachers and officials regarding the recruitment process of teachers on Tuesday.
Dr Md Golam Shahi Alam, SAU vice-chancellor received the resignation letters, public relations office confirmed.
University Registrar Badrul Islam Shoyeb and Proctor Abdul Baset engaged in an altercation regarding the process, said the office sources, adding that it became a serious issue when SAU Teachers Unity supported the proctor whilst Officers Association supported the registrar.
As Baset's preferred teacher was not appointed, he blamed Badrul for that. They engaged in an altercation, which spread between the teachers and officials, seeking anonymity, a teacher said, adding, the teachers said that they will continue taking classes.Demanding resignation of Registrar Badrul, teachers boycotted the classes and exams, while the officials demanded Proctor Baset be replaced and shunned all administrative work, university administration said.
Teachers and officials rejected commenting on the situation and the vice-chancellor did not receive any phone calls.
Meanwhile, the newly formed Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) alumni association committee was suspended for three months on Wednesday evening.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Aminul Haque Bhuiyan signed the suspension letter after a meeting with the association, confirmed Mokaddus Ali, convener of the committee.
The VC ordered to form a new committee after consulting with former students from various batches to strengthen the communication between students, he added.
