The Khulna regional round of Rupchanda-The Daily Star Super Chef 2016 came to an end yesterday with seven contestants qualifying for the next round.

In the first stage, a large number of participants sat for a written exam. Based on the results of the written test, 25 people were picked to compete in the second stage of the nationwide culinary competition jointly organised by Rupchanda, the flagship brand of Bangladesh Edible Oil Limited, and The Daily Star.

The selected 25 were given a budget of Tk 500 and one hour to pick up ingredients of their choice from Meena Bazar. The contestants were then given 30 minutes to prepare and present their dishes to the judges.

The panel of judges comprising Armin Sultana Jui and Nasrin Hossain, the first and second runners-up of the competition's 2014 chapter, chose seven contestants for the next round.

Runa Laila, from Kushtia, who stood first said, "I am extremely delighted that the judges have chosen me from this huge number of participants."

The winners of all regional rounds will compete against each other in a series of tests to become 2016's Rupchanda-The Daily Star Super Chef.

The Super Chef will win a prize of Tk 10 lakh, while the first and second runners-up will get Tk 5 lakh and Tk 2 lakh respectively.
