7th National Undergraduate Math Olympiad held at JU

The first regional round of the seventh National Undergraduate Mathematics Olympiad 2015 was held at Jahangirnagar University (JU) yesterday.

Ten contestants have been selected for the finale from among 116 participants from different public and private universities in Dhaka north region.

The winners are Md Tarikul Islam, Abdul Mohaimin Patwary and Md Billal Hossen from Uttara University; Kaushiq Islam from Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur; Pinku Debnath, Anika Tasnim and Sumaira Samiha from North South University and Istiaque Ahmed, Shakibul Islam and Emran Islam from JU.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam inaugurated the programme at the mathematics department. Associate Professor Osman Gani of the department presented a paper on "Mathematics: Surrounding to World". Pro-VC Prof Abul Hossain distributed prizes among the winners. Secretary of Bangladesh Mathematics Society Dr M Shahidul Islam was also present.

Next rounds will be held in five regions -- Dhaka South, Khulna, Chittagong, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.

Bangladesh Mathematical Society in partnership with AF Mujibur Rahman Foundation organised the competition.
