Family members of Biplob, who was killed at Raynagar in Sylhet on Wednesday, claimed that he was murdered for protesting stalking of his niece.

Sumon Das, a member of Jamshed Siraj's group, had been allegedly stalking Biplob's niece for a couple of months. A general diary (GD no-557) had been filed with Kotwali Police Station over the matter on October 15 last year, they said.

On Wednesday, when Biplob Roy Bikol met Jamshed and Sumon they locked into an altercation over the matter. Suddenly Jamshed started stabbing Biplob and fled. Biplob died at a hospital later, they added.

Two of Biplop's friends, who were with him at that time, were injured in the incident.

Though a case was filed accusing Jamshed, Sumon, Kabir, Rubel Das and Jubel Miah, on Wednesday, police did not take any action regarding it, Biplop's family members claimed.

Jamshed is a local Jubo League leader and brother of Awami League secretary of ward-19 Jabed Siraj, they added.

However, Officer-in-Charge of Kotwali Police Station Sohel Ahmed said the murder occurred over a clash between two local groups.
