Boatman’s body recovered from Karnaphuli

Police recovered the body of a boatman at Banglabazar Ghat from the Karnaphuli river in the port city yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Nur Ahmed (45), from Ichhanagar under Karnaphuli upazila, said police. He had been missing since Tuesday.

Inspector Jobayer Syed of Karnaphuli Police Station said Nur was  returning on an empty boat after dropping off passengers in Sadarghat on Tuesday. Before he could reach land, a lighter vessel hit his boat and it capsized.

Locals found his body in the Banglabazar Ghat area around 8am yesterday.
