UP chairman aspirant's brother held with arms

Locals caught a brother of a union parishad chairman candidate with arms and handed him to cops at Kawkhali upazila in Pirojpur yesterday noon.

The arrestee is Kamal Gazi, 35, brother of Gazi Siddikur Rahman, an independent candidate from Shialkathi union.

Delowar Hossain, a candidate from Jatio Party of the union, alleged that Kamal and some 7-8 men tried to attack him while he was going to a mosque around 1:00pm after election work at Shankarpur village when locals caught Kamal with an unlicensed revolver and eight rounds of bullets.

Rab from Barisal also visited the spot afterwards, informed local journalists and people.

Jahangir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kawkhali police confirmed the incident.

An investigation is underway and no case has been filed yet, said Walid Hossain, superintendent of police of Pirojpur.  Siddikur could not be reached for comments as his cell phone was switched off.
