Death anniversary

Today is the fifth death anniversary of renowned journalist KG Mustafa.

On this occasion, a milad mahfil will be held today after Asr prayers at Ilora Apartmens, 5/7 Sir Syed Road, Block A, Mohammadpur, in the capital.

Mustafa, who passed away on March 13, 2010, started his journalism career in Calcutta in the late 1940s. He also served as ambassador to Lebanon, Iraq and Yemen between 1973 and 1975.

He was the president of All-Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists in 1970 and the convenor of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists in 1972.

Mustafa worked for the Pakistan Observer (later renamed the Bangladesh Observer) and later served as the joint editor of the Bangladesh Observer in 1972, as the founding editor of the daily Purbokone of Chittagong in 1980s, and as a member of the Editorial Board of the weekly Dialogue.

Mustafa was also the acting editor of the daily Sangbad before becoming the first editor of the daily Muktokantho (now-defunct).
