Dhanmondi double murder accused gives confessional statement
House help Surovi Akhter Nahida has confessed to a magistrate that she alone killed an elderly woman and another domestic help at a residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi area as the duo did not allow her to leave the flat.
Afroza Begum, deputy managing director of Creative Group, and her house help Bithi, were found dead in a flat on the fourth floor of a building on Road-28 in Dhanmondi on November 1.
Morgue sources said there were multiple stab marks on Afroza’s belly, chest and back while Bithi had stab marks on her chest.
“I was appointed as a house help of Afroza’s residence by Atikul Haque Bachchu, a bodyguard of Afroza’s son-in-law Kazi Monir Uddin on the day of incident, said Surovi in her confessional statement.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sarafuzzaman Ansary recorded her statement at his chamber after Detective Branch of police Inspector Md Robiul Alam, also investigation officer of the case, produced the accused to him.
Surovi in her statement said Bachchu brought her at the house and went out for work. After a while, Afroza Begum and Bithi locked the door from the inside which created a fear for her. Then she tried to leave the house but in vain. Later she planned to kill them at any cost and would flee the scene.
“After the murders, I took a mobile phone from the house and left,” she said in her statement.
Following the incident, Dilruba Sultana, daughter of Afroza, filed the case with Dhanmondi Police Station accusing five people including Bachchu and Surovi.
Police arrested Surovi from Dhaka’s Agargaon area on November 4 while four others were arrested from different places of the capital.
All the five including Surovi were placed on a five-day remand in the double murder case.
