France keen to help Bangladesh become middle income nation

France has expressed its interest in assisting Bangladesh in reaching its goal to become a middle income country by 2021.

Ambassador of France in Dhaka Sophie Aubert said this on the eve of French National Day yesterday. In 1789, the common people decided to get rid of absolute monarchy on this day known as the Bastille Day.

She said they would soon have a new embassy -- the first French-German collocated embassy in the world.

"We want to develop partnerships with Bangladesh on many projects -- to launch the first Bangladeshi satellite, Bangabandhu Satellite, to set-up the new water plant to provide Dhaka with drinkable water, to extend the Chittagong Refinery that a French company had built 50 years ago," she said.

She announced that the embassy, along with the France Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, will organise French Trade Show on November 27-28 at the Le Méridien Hotel.
