JU students to continue demo
Students and teachers of Jahangirnagar University have decided to continue their demonstrations on the campus tomorrow against alleged corruption of the authorities and unplanned development work which they claim will endanger the biodiversity of the campus.
The protesters will stage demonstration and bring out a procession from in front of Social Science Faculty to tomorrow to meet their demand, said Mohammad Didar, general secretary of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front of JU unit.
Earlier in the day, issued ultimatum to the authorities to take actions against a Chhatra League man for allegedly assaulting one of their fellows.
Md Nurul Islam Saymum, general secretary of Jahangirnagar Theatre and also one of the organisers of the recent protests, gave a written complaint to the proctor claiming that Abhishek Mandal physically assaulted him around 10:00am on the campus.
“Abhishek physically assaulted me when I went to have food near Shahid Rafiq Jabbar Hall at the university campus,” the statement wrote.
Abhishek Mandal is the organizing secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (Jahangirnagar section).
Following the incident, the protesters cancelled the talks with the administration which was scheduled to be held today and gave a one-hour ultimatum from 12:30pm, our JU correspondent reports quoting Ashikur Rahman, one of the spokespersons of the movement.
“We will join talks with the authorities after legal actions against the assaulter is taken,” the spokesperson said.
Agitated students and teachers of JU have been demonstrating on campus since August 23 demanding the relocation of three male students’ dormitories which the authorities planned to construct near Rabindranath Hall, and a judicial probe into the allegations of corruption.
