Kanchan sues Shajahan Khan for Tk 100cr

Road safety campaigner Ilias Kanchan yesterday filed a Tk 100 crore defamation case against former shipping minister Shajahan Khan. 

The case was filed with the court of Dhaka's First Joint District Judge Utpal Bhattchrjee. The court will deliberate whether it would accept the case today.

In his complaint, Ilias stated that Shajahan Khan, at a programme in Narayanganj on December 8 last year, said Ilias had accumulated a huge amount of money.

According to the case statement, Shahjahan said he would make public how much money Ilias received and for what purpose, and also how much money he took for himself and in the name of his son and daughter-in-law.

Shahjahan's comments at the time were published in different media, it said.

Such comments damaged Ilias' reputation nationally and internationally, Ilias said.

On December 11, he had urged Shahjahan to withdraw his comment, to no avail, the case statement read.
