Murder accused killed in 'gunfight’ after surrender

A murder accused was killed in a reported gunfight with the law enforcers in Khulshi area of Chattogram early today, hours after he surrendered to police.

Deceased Md Belal, 43, from Cumilla was an accused in at least 13 murder and robbery cases, Pranab Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Khulshi Police Station, told our Chattogram correspondent. 

Yesterday night, he surrendered to police and confessed to them of having some firearms hidden in Jalalabad area of Khulshi.

When the law enforcers went to recover the firearms with Belal around 1:00am, his associates started firing, prompting them to retaliate.

During the “gunfight”, Belal got shot and was rushed to Chattogram Medical College and Hospital, where the duty doctors declared him dead, the OC added.
