Nearly 47 lakh Indian rupees seized in Dhaka

Police today seized around 47 lakh Indian rupees and detained three people from Dhaka’s Kakrail area today.

The detainees are Hasan, Yakub and Rubel, Shiblee Noman, additional deputy commissioner (Motijheel zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told The Daily Star.

Tipped off that a consignment of Indian currency was being brought to Dhaka using SA Paribahan Courier service, a police team launched a drive in Kakrail area arund 4:00pm and seized the currency.

Police also detained two receivers of the currency --Hasan and Yakub -- and CNG-run- auto-rickshaw driver Rubel while they were loading a luggage of the currency to the auto-rickshaw in a bid to go to Jatarbari.

During the primary interrogation, Yakub told police that the currency was brought at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet from Dubai.
