President undergoes medical checkup in London

President Abdul Hamid underwent medical checkup in two London hospitals on Monday.
"Honorable president underwent eye checkup in Moorfield Eye Hospital while that of heart in Bupa Cromwell Hospital on Monday afternoon," President's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim told the news agency over the phone from London yesterday.
According to physicians, the president's eyes are in good condition, the press secretary said.
15 Ctg BNP-Jamaat-Shibir men held

Law enforcers detained 15 activists of BNP-Jamaat-Shibir in Chittagong city and three upazilas of the district on Monday night to prevent possible acts of sabotage during the countrywide blockade and hartals enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, said police.
Of them, 11 activists were held in various places of Sitakunda, Lohagara and Satkania upazilas.
CMP police detained three hartal supporters in separate areas of the city. Another was held with six petrol bombs and four cocktails in KB Aman Ali road area in the city on Monday night.
Anti-violence drama festival begins in capital tomorrow

A 10-day anti-violence drama festival will begin in the capital's Shilpakala Academy tomorrow.
International Theater Institute (ITI), Bangladesh and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy are jointly organising the festival with the theme "Drama against violence".
To be held with the patronisation of the cultural affairs ministry, the "Second Dhaka International Theater Festival" will be inaugurated in Nandan Mancha of the academy in the evening on that day.
bKash staff mugged, stabbed to death in Gazipur

Muggers looted Tk 5 lakh after stabbing a sales representative of bKash to death in Board Bazar area of Gazipur city yesterday afternoon.
The deceased was Robin Sarkar, 19, who used to collect money from the agents of the company in the area.
Khandaker Ershad Jahan, local distributor of bKash, said a group of miscreants intercepted Robin before the Islamic University of Technology and took away a bag containing the money from him.
Man's body found in Gazipur

Police found the body of an unidentified man from a paddy field in Mahish Bathan area of Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur on Monday afternoon.
Sub-inspector Sanowar Jahan of Kaliakoir Police Station said locals noticed the body of the man, aged around 55, in the area at noon and informed them.
Police sent it to Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur.
Private hospital fined in Rangpur for not having full-time doctor

A mobile court in Rangpur city yesterday fined RG Hospital, a private hospital, Tk 10,000 for operating without any full-time doctor in Dhap area violating medical rules.
During the drive, the team, comprised of Rangpur City Corporation and the district administration, also did not find any list mentioning the prices of services provided by the hospital, the team said.
Fire guts 4 shops in Rangpur

Four shops were gutted by a fire on Terminal Road at Hajipara in Rangpur city yesterday.
The fire originated from an electric short circuit at "Tahmina Auto Parts", owned by Apel Mahmud, at Ashrafia Jame Masjid Market and soon engulfed the others.
The owners claimed that they have incurred a loss of Tk 12 lakh.
Woman's body found in Barisal pond

Barisal Kotwali Model police yesterday recovered the body of an unidentified woman, aged about 45, from a pond near the police station at Katpotti in Barisal City.
The body was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
Chevron Bangladesh ends green initiative in Bibiyana

Community-Driven Green Initiatives (CDGI), a two-year pilot economic development initiative sponsored by the Chevron Bangladesh companies, was concluded at a knowledge-sharing event in Habiganj on March 1.
The Chevron Bangladesh Companies' partner-NGO, Institute of Development Affairs, implemented this initiative for 227 households in 22 villages located around their Bibiyana gas plant in Nabiganj upazila.
