Nine killed in road crashes

Nine people were killed and 21 others injured in road accidents in five districts yesterday and Thursday.

Our Staff correspondent reports, a staff of a Dhaka-based national daily's printing press died and another was injured when a newspaper-carrying pickup-van turned turtle near Kamalapur Railway Station in the capital's Shahjahanpur area yesterday.

The deceased was Mashiur Rahman, 30, a staff of the press belonging to Manobkantha.

Our Rangpur correspondent reports, four people were killed and 20 others injured when a bus fell into a roadside ditch on Rangpur-Kurigram highway in Jummarpar area of Kaunia upazila on Thursday.

The deceased were Azizuil Islam, 20, Hamidul Islam, 45, of Lalmonirhat Sadar, Ramjan Ali, and Raju Mian, 20, of Rangpur city.

A correspondent from Chittagong reports, Bibi Joynob, 72, of South Durong village died when a truck ran her over while she was crossing Chittagong-Khagrachhari road in Fatikchhari upazila of Chittagong yesterday.

Our Chapainawabganj correspondent reports, Abdul Ahad, 35, of Horinagar village died when a truck hit his motorcycle at Pailing intersection of Shibganj municipal area yesterday.

Meanwhile, Rezaul Karim, 27, of Sahara village died when a truck hit his motorcycle in Saharatala village of the same upazila.

Our Jamalpur correspondent adds Rafiq, 30, of Ranarampur village when a three-wheeler collided head-on with a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Jamalpur-Mymensingh road in Joyrampur area under Sadar upazila yesterday.
