Police sue 34 including Fulgazi upazila chairman
Police yesterday sued 34 people including Fulgazi upazila chairman and general secretary of the upazila unit of Awami League Abdul Alim for beating election officials and obstructing their duties.
Fulgazi police Sub-inspector Asiqul Islam filed the case. Police said out of 34 accused, 14 were named while the others unnamed.
Muhammad Shamsul Alam, additional superintendent of police in Feni, confirmed filing of the case.
Fulgazi police Officer-in-Charge Md Moin Uddin said the incident happened on February 22 while the election commission officials were distributing nomination papers among the candidates of Union Parishad polls.
"In the case police alleged that chairman Alim and his supporters gave a list to the election commission officials of their candidates and barred them from giving nomination papers to all aspirants except their candidates. They also beat election commission employees and vandalised the electoral office," said the OC.
