President craving for freedom at village

Unb, Kishoreganj

Feeling "confined" in tight security, President Abdul Hamid yesterday turned a bit nostalgic at his Kamalpur village home in Kishoreganj, saying he wants to pass a few days there in solitude.

"I used to roam through villages here alone when I had been here in the past, but now it is not possible…I am now under the blanket of tight security at Bangabhaban and here. Even then, I am here, but it is not possible to talk to people freely," he said.

The president said this while exchanging greetings with the local people at Muktijoddha Abdul Haque College after his arrival from the capital on a three-day visit.

"I want to stay here as I did in the past. I would have felt better had I been able to stay here for 10-15 days, but it is not possible," he added.

Later, Hamid inspected various development activities of the area. He first visited Tomiza Khatun Model Girls High School and exchanged greetings with the teachers and students of the school.

The president also laid the foundation stone of a girls' dormitory there.

Hamid also visited Mithamoin Sadar Union Parishad office and the under-construction upazila auditorium.

He also laid the foundation stone of the administrative building of Hazi Tayeb Uddin High School.

Local lawmaker Rezwan Ahmed Taufiq, public administration secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury and secretaries to the president's office were present.
