A Dhaka court placed suspended assistant sub-inspector Shamim Reza of Bangshal Police Station on a five-day remand yesterday in a case filed over shooting a cable TV operator staff the day before in Khilgaon.

A metropolitan magistrate passed the order after Khilgaon police produced the ASI before the court seeking a 10-day remand.

A ballistic test found that the pistol seized from ASI Shamim was used to shoot the cable TV man, the OC of  the police station said.

On Friday, Al Amin, 26, an employee of Dhaka East Cable Vision, was shot by ASI Shamim during an altercation over the payment of monthly service charge. Later, police arrested Shamim in Bangshal after an attempted murder case was filed by the victim, and seized the pistol and a bullet from his possession.

Shamim was suspended following the incident.
