Three cases filed against students
Three cases were filed against students of Barisal University yesterday in connection with Wednesday's clash between the students and police near the campus over a missing cellphone that left 10 people, including three cops, injured.
Four students--Abid Hossain, Ashish Dhali, Ismail Sardar and Luthfar Rahman and Sajib Hossain, sacked staff of fast food shop "Hotplate" were sent to jail. They were detained during the clash.
Shakhawat Hossain, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police, said Sub-inspector Satya Ranjan Khashkel filed a case against seven students by name and over 200 unnamed persons on charge of attacking police. Two other cases--one filed by Selim Reja, a cameraperson of Banglavision, for attacking him and damaging his camera and another by Kamrul Ahasan Rumi, owner of, Hotplate, for attacking his shop.
Witnesses said Sajib, employee of the shop, was sacked by its owner allegedly for stealing a mobile phone set on Monday. Over the issue, Sajib and his one colleague locked in a scuffle on Wednesday noon. Later friends of Sajib, including some BU students, tried to attack the shop. On information, police rushed in and tried to quell the situation. At one stage, the students threw brick chips at the law enforcers that led to the clash, said police.
