Vessel capsizes near Sandwip channel

A lighter vessel, carrying 1,000 tonnes of maize of City Group, capsized after being hit by another lighter vessel near Sandwip channel in Chittagong yesterday.
Marmaid-2 was heading for Narayanganj when another lighter vessel, Salman Selim, carrying cement clinkers, hit it at Bhasanchar around 8:30am. All the 13 crews of Marmaid-2 were rescued by the staff of Salman Selim, said Nobi Alam, general secretary of Lighter Vessel Workers' Union.
