Woman set on fire dies

A mother of four died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after allegedly setting herself on fire yesterday while her family members alleged that she was killed by her husband's family.

About 85 percent of her body was burnt, said DMCH police outpost.

Locals said the deceased Beauty Begum, 32, wife of Alamin, a day labourer, in Munshiganj's Louhajang upazila committed suicide out of shame after her in-laws accused her of having an extramarital affair.

Abdul Wahab Sheikh, uncle of the deceased alleged that Alamin's family used to harass Beauty constantly and falsely accused her of having an affair. He also alleged that Beauty did not commit suicide, rather she was killed.

Her in-laws had fled the area and filing of a case is underway, said Louhajang police.
