33 thousand 'Yaba' tablets seized
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested seven drug peddlers and seized Yaba tablets from a residential hotel beside the highway in Sirajganj early yesterday.
This is one of the biggest Yaba hauls in the northern districts, sources said.
The arrestees are Abdul Mazid, 50, of Poshchim Belkuchi village in Sirajganj; Biplob Hossain, 35, and Shahidul Islam, 42, of Diar Shahpur village in Pabna; Soleman Ali Shangkar, 40, Ibrahim Hossain, 20, Nazmul Huda, 18 and Rubel Hossain, 30, of Belta and Mogra villages under Tangail Sadar upazila.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-12 Sirajganj camp raided a residential hotel beside the highway at Kodda area of Sirajganj early yesterday.
The elite force arrested the detainees and seized 33,000 Yaba tablets from their possession. They also seized Tk 1.26 lakh cash and a motorbike from the spot.
Shahab Uddin Khan, commander of Rab-12, also the additional DIG, said in a press conference held at the Sirajganj Rab-12 camp that the arrestees are the biggest drug peddlers in the northern region.
"The arrestees have been involved in drug peddling since long. They run the business in Sirajganj, Pabna, Kushthia, Bogra, Rajshahi and other districts," the Rab commander added.
