Bangabandhu Satellite project wins ITU Telecom World Award

Bangabandhu Satellite Launching Project has received the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) award 2016 for excellence in providing and promoting innovative ICT solutions with social impact across the country.

State Minister for Post and Telecommunications, Tarana Halim received the award titled 'Recognition of Excellence' on behalf of the government at ITU Telecom World 2016 summit held in Bangkok last evening.

ITU is a unique international platform for influential figures from government and industry to connect with start-ups and digital entrepreneurs in the ICT sector, to exhibit and explore partnership solutions, investment opportunities, shared ideas and best practices.

The four-day long event ended last evening with the telecom minister receiving the prestigious award for Bangladesh.

The Bangabandhu-1 is scheduled to be launched in December 2017 with a cost of Tk 2,967 crore.

Thales Alenia Space, a French aerospace manufacturer, is manufacturing the satellite.
