China keen to fund Dhaka-Ctg expressway: Obaidul
China has expressed its interest to construct the 225-km Dhaka-Chittagong expressway, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said today.
The minister said this while talking to reporters after a meeting with a three-member Chinese delegation, led by its Ambassador in Bangladesh Ma Ming Chiang, at Setu Bhaban in Dhaka, according to a handout.
Obaidul said once the project is implemented, the travel time between Chittagong and Dhaka will reduce by two to two and half hours.
The government has taken the initiative to construct the Dhaka-Chittagong Expressway to reduce the extra pressure of vehicles on the existing highway, said the minister.
China has primarily agreed to provide financial support for implementing the gigantic project, he added.
Bridges Division Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam and high officials of the Chinese embassy in Dhaka were present.
