Ex-speaker Sheikh Razzak passes away

Former speaker Sheikh Razzak Ali died of old age ailments at his Khulna residence this afternoon at the age of 87.

Sheikh Razzak breathed his last around 2:45pm, Sayrul Kabir Khan, BNP media wing staff, told The Daily Star.

He was speaker of the Parliament from 1991 to 1996.

The four-time elected lawmaker from Khulna-2 constituency participated in the Language Movement of 1952, mass-upsurge of 1969, the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971 and movement against autocracy during 1982-1990.

The former speaker was born in Paikgachha upazila of Khulna in 1928.
