Five robbers held after gunfight with cops

Five alleged robbers were arrested following a gunfight with police in Banglabazar area of Habiganj district on Wednesday night.
The arrestees are Habibur Rahman, 24, Sohel Miah, 25, Shakil Ahmed, 25, Rupon Ahmed, 26, and Abdul Azad, 30. They are from different upazilas of the district.
Of them, Azad was admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital with bullet injuries, said Liakat Ali, officer-in-charge of Nabiganj Police Station.
Receiving information that a gang of 7/8 robbers was looting cash, gold ornaments and mobile sets from the passengers of different vehicles on Nabiganj-Aushkandi road in the area, a police team went to the spot at around 11:0030pm.
Sensing the presence of the team, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate. 
Police arrested five members of the gang with sharp weapons and bullets while the rest managed to flee, said the OC.
Meanwhile, robbers looted cash, gold ornaments and other valuables from a house at Shriramshi village in Jagannathpur upazila of Sunamganj district the same night.
A gang of 10/12 swooped on the house of Saleh Ahmed, an expatriate in UK, at around 7:00pm and held the family members hostage at gunpoint. 
The robbers then took away money, four tolas of gold ornaments and mobile sets from the house, said police.
