Form separate land commission for the plain land ethnic people

Indigenous leaders of the district yesterday demanded separate land commission for the plain land indigenous people of the country.

They came up with the demand at a meeting titled 'Adibasi Jonogoner Bon o Bhumir Odhikar' at Kulaura office hall room in Kulaura upazila town.

Caritas Sylhet Region organised the programme under Sokhomota project.

Alamgir Hossain, assistant commissioner of Land in Kulaura upazila, was present as chief guest while Bably Talang, general secretary of KUBORAZ Inter Punjee Development Association of Khasi people, was special guest.

Addressing the programme, the speakers urged the government to form a separate land commission to protect their land rights, and their leaders to defend the interests of the minorities.

Bably Talang demanded a national policy for all indigenous communities and a separate ministry for the indigenous people in plain lands.

Choyon Chokrobarty, union programme officer of Sokhomota project, Sekhor Azim, project officer, and Joyanto Raksham, HRO of indigenous people's development services, among others, spoke at the programme.
