Govt mulls law to protect minorities: Law minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today said that the government is mulling over formulating a new law to protect the country's minority communities.

Responding to reporters' queries at the secretariat in Dhaka, the minister said that a law to protect the minorities is underway, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo.

Anisul Huq also said the government is very much respectful to the rules of law and conscious about the role of lawyers in establishing justice, reports the national news agency, reports BSS.

"If dignity of lawyers is hurt, there will be adverse impact on the rule of law. So, the government is working to maintain the lawyers' dignity," he said.

Law and Justice Division Secretary Abu Saleh Sheikh Mohammad Zahirul Haque, Joint Secretaries Bikash Kumar Saha and Golam Sarwar, leaders of Khulna and Bagerhat district Bar Associations, among others, attended the occasion.
