Govt’s role over graft most serious issue: Survey
Government accountability and transparency in corruption is the most serious issue affecting Bangladesh now, said a survey report of World Economic Forum's Global Shapers Annual Survey 2016.
Lack of political freedom, instability and safety and security are the two next other serious issues that also affecting the country, said the report, published on Wednesday.
A total of 672 youths of the country responded to the survey on five issues---economy, politics, values, technology and business. When asked which three most serious issues are affecting the country now, majority of the respondents picked the above mentioned issues.
Issues of climate change or destruction of natural resources, religious conflicts and large scale conflict or war came respectively when they were asked what are the three most serious issues affecting the world now.
Over 26600 youth age between 18 and 35 of 187 countries took part in the survey. A total of 57 youth of the world think corruption is the most serious issue of the world now.
Majority of Bangladeshi youth said abuse of power or corruption by the government leaders like president, prime minister, ministers, governors and mayors frustrate them.
Lacking of accountability, dishonesty and administrative barriers are the three next frustrating issues, they added.
Start-up ecosystem and entrepreneurship, access to internet and free media or social media, globalization and transparency in governance are the most important factors contributing to youth empowerment in the country, according to the survey.
