‘Implementation of law’ needed to stop rape: NHRC chief

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque today said that proper implementation of the country's existing law needs to be ensured to prevent rape.

"We also have to eradicate the loopholes of the existing law rather than to enact new laws," said the NHRC chief while visiting two minor rape victims at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

"Lack of punishment increases human tendency to commit crimes," he added.

DMCH Deputy Director Khaja Abdul Gafur accompanied the NHRC chief while visiting the victims at One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) in DMCH around 2:30pm.

While talking to reporters, Gafur urged the media to keep following up the incidents so that they don't go out of sight.

"Keep the police and administration under pressure for justice," he addressed to the country's general people.

Talking about the 5-year-old rape victim, who is among the two children undergoing treatment at DMCH, he said that even an uncivilised society cannot commit such brutality.
