Install CC camera at Cyber cafés: BTRC

Star Online Report

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) today asked owners to install closed-circuit cameras at their Cyber café by next 30-day to thwart cyber crimes.

The commission noticed that a group of troublemakers are spreading instigation and anti-state comments and photographs in the social media by using the cyber cafés, according to a directive of the telecom watchdog.

They are also engaged in committing offensive acts like instigating militancy and religious riots by doing so, BTRC said.

Following these criminal offences, the BTRC today asked owners of the cyber cafés to install the closed-circuit camera in their cyber cafés so that none can blackmail people, give them threat and make comment to instigate religious sentiment by using cyber café, Sarwar Alam, secretary of the telecom watchdog, told The Daily Star this evening.

"We will cancel licence and will go for legal action against those who will fail to comply with the directives," the BTRC official said.
