Land dispute kills one

A youth was killed over land dispute in Sadar upazila of the district on Friday. The deceased is Rezaul Islam, 30, son of Shamsul Haque of Shimuldangi village in the upazila.  Afaz Bhuiyan, chairman of Balia Union Parishad, told this correspondent over cellphone that Naya Mia and Ayub Ali of Dhapdop village locked in an altercation when Naya along with men were harvesting wheat from a disputed land around 4:30pm. At one stage, both the groups equipped with sharp weapons attacked each other, leaving Rezaul, younger brother of Naya's son in-law, dead on the spot. Mehedi Hasan, officer in-charge of Thakurgaon Police Station, said Naya Mia filed a murder case against 27 people with the police station.
