Man held with 21 gold bars

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested an alleged smuggler along with 21 gold bars, weighing around 2.5 kg, from Benapole check-post area in Jessore yesterday.

The arrestee, Nur Islam, 40, son of Babar Ali, is a resident of Gatipara village under Benapole Port Police Station.

On secret information, a team of the border guards raided the area around 12:30pm and arrested Nur Islam along with the gold bars, worth around Tk 1.2 crore, while he was about to smuggle those to India through the border, said Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer of BGB 26 Battalion.
